Polaris Cufflinks

Suryo was an eight year old girl who loved to sneak out at night to see the stars and the northern lights coming alive in winter. Her father would usually warn her to stay indoors and once even went as far as locking her in her room for months; afraid that his little girl would get lost in the snow. As expected, one night Suryo escaped through a window. Losing her footing on a nearby mountain drop, she fell down straight into the Tolon Woods. A pack of wolves happened to be hunting in the vicinity so she was forced to flee deeper into the woods to escape. Suryo spent several hours alone in the forest, crying and desperate to find a way back home, until she realized that she knew exactly how to get back. “Look up at the night sky, and use the North Star, the Polaris, as a guide”, she told herself. So she began walking back, and at the halfway point she was met by her worried father, who also knew the North Star as a guide. Ever since that night, Suryo’s father promised to always accompany her whenever she wanted to go out and look at the stars together, a ritual they would maintain for many years.
