MÁXIMO VALDÉS

“Nature, structure, spirituality and every component of this existential plane that we call living have always been sources of fascination for me. All my life I’ve walked a slightly less-than-conventional path, marked by my Latin American roots and my love for capturing the poetic and mystic aspects of reality; particularly those symbolic little details which are everywhere around us, but are usually unable to perceive with the naked eye.

I am inspired by both the seemingly simple and by the extraordinarily complex, and how these things can be molded into something tangible and symmetrical. And far from being cold and inert, ensure that it becomes warm and full of life.”

THE ART

“Many define jewelry as an artform where each piece is defined by its quality, refinement and mineral richness. As well as that, I also believe that this is a language whereby one can translate the ephimeral quality of the spirituality that surrounds us into unperishable creation. Behind each work there is storytelling; an intimate sense of identity that is both metaphorical and abstract.

Beauty can be found in what is both holy and unholy (as the point of view may suggest), orderly and chaotic, light and dark. In between this duality, the clay shows me the way and my hands transform into that bridge uniting inspiration with materials and tools ready to create something truly special. Something that, when stumbled across the right hands, will also be a vehicle of expression for its new owner to turn it into a distinctive characteristic of themselves; a way to communicate without words.”

INSPIRATION & LIFESTYLE

“My greatest muse is nature, since there is nothing more genuine and worthy of being appreciated. Once inspiration arrives it is as if a new being took form between my hands and I am no longer myself. I become part of the piece and invest hours, patience, and love, making sure every detail results in a unique creation that stands out above the rest.

I live from my hands and the expression they create. I revel not only in the folds, the dimensions, the textures, the curves, and the proportions of the crafting process, but also in feeling connected with a new side of myself that I can show the world; small pieces of the universe that take the form of what excites me and that I can wear every day to remind myself and others what I live for.”
